Name | SOLASODINE |
Molecular formula | C27H43O2N |
Description |
It is a cytotoxic substance for cancer cells. It is active against anaphylactic, insulin shock, and shocks resulting from burns. Steroid alkaloid , from plants of the Solanaceae family |
Biological activity | Solasodine presents several glucocorticoid-like effects: active against shocks of various origin, hypocholesterolaemic and antiatherosclerotic. It enhances the glucocorticoids secretion by adrenal glands. In prolonged use, it causes atrophy of the adrenal gland cortex. It possesses also an embryotoxic activity and cumulative effects. It also presents a juvenomimetic activity on insect larvas. 5 mg/kg cause a short-acting cerebral stimulation and improve the conditioned reflex activity. It presents the opposite effects with repeated administration. Solasodine glycosides present a selective cytotoxicity for cancer cells. Recommended doses: 0.1 - 5.0 mg/kg (p.o., i.v.) |
